Is cow’s milk good for cats?

The vast majority of cats like dairy products. Such as milk, yogurts, cheese, etc. As we all know, if a pet cat is offered this type of product it is very possible that they will like it, since its flavors and textures are pleasant to the palate of the feline. However, dairy products, especially cow’s milk, are not ideal for good cat health. Cats become lactose intolerant as they grow older, it is not easy for them to digest the sugar present in milk.

The symptoms of lactose intolerance in a pet cat are:

  • Stomach ache.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Vomiting
  • Gases
  • Food allergies
  • Milk is even contraindicated in pet cats suffering from diabetes, kidney diseases, urinary stones, or digestive disorders.

Lactating kittens and milk suitable for human consumption.

Under no circumstances should breast milk be replaced by young kittens. This is because it can wreak havoc on the health of a pet cat. Cow’s milk contains very different components from breast milk beforehand, it is low in protein, very rich in lactose, and also contains sugars.

The abandoned kittens and their feeding.

Young felines have a great appetite but, nevertheless, their stomach is very small. For this reason, a pet cat would have to be fed frequently.

If you have found an abandoned kitten, you must bear in mind that they do not have access to breast milk and to the care of their mother. Therefore, if you decide to keep it, the kitten from that moment will depend on the care coming from you. Therefore, if we still have to feed the kitten with milk, it is recommended that we do not give it that which is usually consumed by humans. But rather, give it “cat milk” which is found in specialized stores, which in its composition contains less lactose. Milk should not be considered as a drink that replaces water.
