What’s the meaning of their name?

Literally, in Welsh, “cor-gi” means dwarf dog. It is a name that fits them perfectly.

Their ancestors

The ancestors of the corgi are found in the watchdogs, shepherds and cattle dogs of South Wales, hence their guardian roots and their eagerness to defend and protect.

There are two races that until the 20th century was considered the same:  Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh. They have a series of physical differences such as that one is somewhat larger than the other and the coat is longer in the second case (in addition the Pembroke are usually brown or white and in the second case there is more variety of fur). It is also said that Pembroke are more sociable than their cousins ​​but, like everything, it depends on the personality of the dog and that is not linked to any breed.

The corgi is considered one of the longest-lived breeds. If the animal is in good condition, it can live even 15-16 years easily.

You have to understand that this depends a bit on the personality of the dog but, in general, corgi are sociable up to a point, that is, they are quite independent dogs, very sociable with humans but a bit shy and suspicious of other dogs. Therefore, it is important that we accustom them to certain animal contact from puppies.
