Pet Rabbit: Bathing Tips/Warnings

Warnings

Before entering the bathroom, take these considerations into account: pet rabbits are very clean animals that are constantly grooming themselves. In addition, they have a protective layer on the skin that could be in danger. And, finally and very importantly, bathing for them is a time of great stress and anxiety. So you only have to bathe your pet rabbit if it is very dirty and for any serious reason.

We must exclusively use special shampoos for rabbits. Do not put any other soap or shampoo for human beings on their skin. Because they have very delicate skin and these soaps are toxic for them. In addition, specialized hygiene products for rodents and rabbits contain beneficial substances. Such as aloe vera (in just the right amount). In which will heal small wounds and scars; antiparasitic and/or insect repellent.

If you do not want to put them through the unpleasant experience that bathing with water is for them, you can clean them with dry shampoo. This product eliminates odors. It also absorbs fat and leaves the hair perfumed without creating so much stress for the pet rabbit.

Prepare the bath for your pet rabbit

If you absolutely must bathe them and as we already know that bathing is a very uncomfortable time for the animal, we are going to make it as easy as possible.

During the bath

Use a special pH soap for rabbits, follow the instructions of the product, and then rinse it well.

Always be careful with eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, so that neither water nor soap enters those areas.

Since we are already overwhelming them enough, do not take advantage of this moment to cut their nails, check their teeth, or cut their hair. We want this process to be effective and fast.

Drying your Pet Rabbit

Use a towel that is just for them. When the bath is over, surround them with it. Hug your pet rabbit and rub them a little as if you were stroking them. You do not need to dry them whole with the towel. It is better to dry naturally so keep them in a room where the animal can not catch a cold. Do not use a hairdryer, we could scare them and burn them. They have too much power for them.
