Origin
Whenever we talk about the origin of some species, it is difficult to cite very reliable sources because there are no abundant historical records that are reliable. In the case of the Maine Coon, it is known that it came to North America in the 19th century. Hence the name Maine, which carries one of the states into which the United States is divided. According to The Cat Fanciers Association, these cats are the first native exhibition breed native to the United States, but it is not known with certainty how it reached the northeast of the continent.

Not so much now, but in the late nineteenth century, the Maine Coon’s fame grew because they were such beautiful individuals that they often participated in exhibition contests. In fact, one of the most famous Maine Coons in history is the Cosey, the winner of a silver medal documented in the 1895 ‘National Cat Show’ tournament held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Social interest in them declined throughout the first half of the 20th century.
The Size of Maine Coon Cats
