Here are various tips, tricks, personal techniques to take good care of and wash a Persian cat:

Their Body

You should know that Persian cats can be small or large. Depending on the “type”: chinchilla, exotic, or the one that people can have with gold/copper eyes.

Males, even eating little, can weigh up to 8 kilos. Females can weigh up to 5 kilos easily, especially if they are castrated.

Eating/Drinking

A Persian cat can eat little, but very often, up to 15 times a day and night. They drink clear water only, no milk, no chocolate. Good quality kibble should be preferred, depending on the status of the animal.
In this case, catnip is useless and they don’t regurgitate hairballs. The food contains what it takes to dissolve them in the stomach.

To maintain their beautiful coat, it must already be brushed every day with a carder against the grain. Then, with a comb with two rows of teeth differently spaced. Use your fingers to separate the knots, dividing in half each time. Do this until all you have to do is have the dead hair in your fingers. If the knot is too big, cut with lace scissors and be very careful. The skin of cats is very thin. Also, take note that knots form at the base.

Bathing your Persian Cat

Once your cat is free of knots and dead hair, you can wash it with a special shampoo for blue cats(Not gray). You can find it on the internet in specialty cat products. Use 2 different shampoos, a “degreaser” and a volumizer, by diluting the shampoo in a little hot water. Soak your cat in a large basin with hot(but not too hot) water which reaches them at least up to the chest. Soak up the undercoat and then to the skin. Shampoo with great emphasis on the tail, the genitals, the top of the back towards the kidneys. Also, the ‘armpits’, and the ‘back pants’. Especially rinse thoroughly between the two shampoos until the hair seems to float in the water.

Empty the water and use the 2nd shampoo. You can finish rinsing with the shower, running gently because the noise frightens the cat. It is necessary to avoid wetting the eyes and the inside of the ears of the cat. Wash its face with the hands and rinse in the same way. Insist well around the mouth and under the eyes. You hide your eyes and fold your ears to rinse your head.

Brushing

Then you “wring it out” as much as possible with your hands. Then, you dry it in 1-2 towels. Avoid mixing the hair. To brush, start with the lower back, then the sides, the stomach, the armpits. You end with the head, with very small combs, ventilating the hair well. It takes at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the thickness of the fur.

Bathing is to be done at least once a month, brushing is daily.
