They knead to mark territory

What is certain is that pet cats knead their owners as a demonstration of love and affection. Well, one of the theories explains that felines have odoriferous (scent) glands on the pads of their paws and they do this to “mark”. So if your kitty loves “Making Biscuits” or kneading your belly as if they were kneading dough to make cookies, it is because they feel a huge affection and love for you. They also tend to use their massages. Not only to mark their humans, but also to mark their territories through the use of these glands. Leaving its smell impregnated so that it is detected by other cats or other animals.

Since they are babies

Another theory about why pet cats knead refers to their behavior since they are newborns. Well, kittens tend to knead their mother’s belly while they are nursing. They do this to stimulate the flow of breast milk. It is believed that they continue to have this behavior into adulthood when they are separated from their mother prematurely. That is, at a very young age. These theories are also proved when comparing the behavior of a domestic cat with a wild cat. The kneading action is performed more by the domestic cat. Since wild cats do not develop these social behaviors with humans and are not separated from their mothers. On the contrary, domestic cats when they have contact with humans if they can find a utility in performing this action on their human.

Your pet cat kneads to find comfort

Cats also tend to knead the pillows or their beds in order to make them softer. And additionally, more comfortable to sleep later. This behavior is inherited by their wild cat ancestors. They used their paws to soften the grass and large leaves where they found a space to rest. For this reason, sometimes your cat may knead your legs. Or perhaps your belly for a few minutes and then lie on top of you.

When your pet cats knead for attention

Another reason why your cat likes to knead you is to get your attention. Sometimes the kneading is usually combined with a purr. They can do this to get your immediate attention, for suddenly you’ve been spending too much time with your attention on television. Or a book and feel like it has to get your attention. Of course, this type of behavior occurs in cats that are more dependent on their master. And therefore, enjoy and require more attention and care. So friends we already know that this behavior of your cat is completely normal and characteristic of felines. So you should not worry about the constant massage of your cat,  but quite the opposite! Your pet cat especially appreciates you.
