Bath Care for Puppies

Giving a dog a bath can either be enjoyable or a nightmare. Young puppies love or hate water, there is no in-between for this argument. When giving a puppy a bath, think about the following two things. Are you aware of how and how many times a month a dog should bathe? Well, hopefully not too much. Doing so will shred away the essential oils necessitated to keep the dog’s coat shiny.

Gather all your supplies before starting. You don’t want a wet dog running behind you through the house. The supplies you need include tearless shampoo, some dry towels, and maybe a comb(only if your pup is a long-hair breed).

Start the bathing process when your dog has time to adjust to the bathwater. Place your puppy in a sink or a tub and reward them with praise for staying still. In the meantime, you can offer a treat or scratch to support good behavior.

When it comes to using water, make sure it’s only lukewarm or tepid. Never insert soap in their eyes or ears. Use some water and gather it in your hands. Use it to gently pat their noses and also head. To minimize the urge to shake, the head area is to be washed last. Since leftover soap can cause itching and flaky skin, be sure to rinse well.

Pet odors have a number of causes. Soiled fur on long-haired dogs gets matted and traps dirt. An ear infection can cause odor as well. Make sure to check the dog’s ears during bathtime. Dental problems can be quite a problem. Inspect your puppy’s teeth at every bath, check for swollen gums or for any missing teeth. Contact your vet if you see something suspicious or something wrong and have it examined.

Nail Clipping for Puppies

Unless you got a groomer to handle it, the nail clipping should occur after a bath. Massage the paws and praise your puppy for staying still. Gently squeeze his paw to extend the nail. Differentiate between the nail and the quick. If you cut too far down, then that quick will eventually begin to bleed. If you are unsure of the nail clipping process, have a professional demonstrate how to clip the nails without causing any harm to the canine.
