In truth, nothing serious can prevent you from sleeping with your pet rabbit. However, it all depends on how well your rabbit is trained, if it is clean and healthy. However, even if this is the case with your rabbit, it is essential that you take certain aspects into account before making a decision:

  • Rabbit hair and some germs could lead to respiratory and allergic problems. If they have allergies, asthma, or symptoms(sneezing, red nose), do not allow your pet rabbit to sleep in your bed. Their condition could get worse.
  • Pet rabbits don’t sleep at day or night(Wait, how do they sleep anyways?). They are considered twilight animals, that is, they are most active at dawn and dusk. Your rabbit will not follow your natural sleeping pattern. As mentioned above, it will be very active at night (a rush hour between 12-2 AM). And also, early in the morning (between 5-6 AM). While you want to sleep soundly and rest, your rabbit will run, jump, chew, eat, and explore. This will certainly interfere with your sleep.
  • If your pet rabbit is not used to hitting on a specific spot dedicated to them, they might choose their bed as a bath and urinate and defecate at night. Also, remember that your rabbit will also want to mark their territory with urine. Rabbits can be trained to relieve themselves in a place like cats, but even when well behaved, they can have accidents. However, rabbits are very clean animals, if you have a particular place where it can get used to, you may not need to train it.

Looking at your sweet and adorable bunny, you will surely want to offer them the best care. And additionally, give them all the comfort possible. Which is why you wonder if you can sleep with your pet rabbit. However, to decide the most suitable option for you and them, remember the following:

  • Rabbits are malicious and therefore yours will try to play with you at night. They may even bite your ears or toes to get your attention.
  • Pet rabbits are delicate creatures. Therefore, one of the problems that you might be concerned about as a rabbit owner (small or normal size) is harming your pet. And the fear of rolling and squashing, unknowingly while you sleep. This fear is less if the animal is a rabbit of a large breed, like the Flemish Giant.
  • If you really want to sleep with your pet rabbit, try placing your mattress on the floor to give it less height and prevent your rabbit from falling over and injuring themself.
  • Maybe one morning you forget that your bunny is comfortably under the covers or you are just not paying attention to it, and that you will wrap it in the sheets and put it in the washing machine or in the laundry basket. Or well, you can catapult it when you make your bed and fly away. Avoid this as much as possible.

If after reviewing the previous points, you have decided that you cannot sleep with your rabbit. Do not worry, there is another alternative. Many people ask this question because they cannot bear to watch their animals sleep in a cage. Well, to avoid this, you have the option of buying a bed for your rabbit and putting it next to yours. So even if you don’t sleep in the same bed as them, you will feel that you are close and that you will also enjoy a comfortable mattress.
