The hygiene of the Maine Coon is a crucial moment for owners, since, like all other cats, it is not very “loving” to be disturbed. This ritual must be carried out since this kind of cat is like a puppy. So, therefore, it is considered a game and not an obligation. Thus, brushing or cleaning the Maine Coon will proceed smoothly and without haste.

Hygiene Tips

A Maine Coon should never be forced to be groomed or washed. It will be remembered and then it will be impossible to get close to. This cat breed has a very thick and bushy coat. It’s longer on the mantle and shorter on the shoulders and head. The coat will be very silky and shiny if it is brushed at least twice a week. This will also prevent hairballs from forming, tangling, elements stick to it, and dead hair from accumulating.

General Maine Coon hygiene includes:

  • Deworm: It will not only prevent fleas or ticks but will also help prevent diseases, many of them fatal. It is also important so that intestinal worms do not proliferate. This would cause many health problems in the poor cat.
  • Eye and ear hygiene: Just as hair must be brushed, it is necessary to comply with a cleaning routine for the eyes and ears. If the Maine Coon does not allow it, then you should go to the vet to do so.
  • Oral hygiene: Preventing tartar build-up will allow the Maine Coon not to have gingivitis or halitosis (bad breath). Descaling is always performed by a professional under general anesthesia. It is also good to know that dry feed serves, in part. So, therefore, that there is no proliferation of tartar and plaque on your teeth.

In relation to bathing the feline or not, everything will depend on what your veterinarian indicates.
