After knowing why they did it, we need to know what to do if they pluck. If you see pecking behavior in your pet parrot,  take it to the vet to undergo a complete examination. This is absolutely necessary to be able to rule out the plucking. It also verifies the presence of any underlying pathology that was causing it. The veterinarian is the only person qualified to indicate a specific treatment against pecking.
However, depending on the cause of the problem, you can highlight the following treatment options for your pet parrot:
- To control stress you must remove our parrot from the cage daily. As well as ensure that it has different toys at its disposal. The parrot will also need a cage that is large enough and that meets optimal hygiene conditions. In some cases, it may be useful for the parrot to live with another animal of its species. This is to avoid the emotions of loneliness. Bathe your pet parrot frequently. It will reject contact with their feathers and they won’t pull them off.
- You must review those environmental factors that could be affecting the pet parrot. Such as smoke from the kitchen, and change the location of the cage to improve its closest environment.
- In the case of external parasites, you must periodically spray the parrot with an antiparasitic product. It must always be under veterinary supervision. And, also, strictly following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- If what causes the bite is a bacterial disease or a skin infection, it will be necessary to follow an antibiotic or antifungal treatment that the veterinarian should always prescribe.
- It will be necessary to review the feeding. To correct any nutritional deficit, you must provide your pet parrot with a diet. That diet should be based mainly on fruit, vegetables, and dry feed, also providing dry or germinated seeds.
By taking into account the main factor that is causing intentional plucking in our pet parrot and applying the appropriate advice, you can fix this problem before a serious injury occurs.
