Hormones and their Scent
Pet cats have scent glands on the chin, in the eye area, and on the sides of the head. Those scent glands release facial pheromones called cuddle/love/happiness hormones. When our cat comes to meet us and rubs against us, it is marking us with its scent. It is a beautiful act where they’re telling us that they accept us and that they are happy.
How Pet Cats rub their owners
Normally it is a complete courtship that begins by approaching us and rubbing, first with the head or side of the face, little by little it passes all its side and ends by surrounding us with its tail. If at that moment we bend over to caress our cat, they increase the intensity of the rub. They rub our hand with their mouth and even tap us with the head. Then, when finished, they leave and start washing their fur.
Having Multiple Pet Cats
If you have only one pet cat, this routine will go on from time to time. Sometimes it is even nice to see how they show you their affection. However, when you have more than one pet cat, this routine becomes a bit long because they will pass one by one between your legs, all trying to leave their scent and that their scent is the last that has been marked on you.
It’s like when there are several male dogs and one arrives and marks a place. Then the other arrives and marks above the first mark and a third arrives and marks above the first and second. LOL! Well, with cats it becomes almost the same, when they give up their scent, it is a parade of one and then another and another.
At home, we are used to it and since we discovered its meaning because at that moment we give the pet cat its minute of glory, we scratch its back or its head and we do a few of carantoñas so that they receive their dose of pampering just like they are giving it to us.
