Make use of the walking leash

The first thing you should do to start the training is to put your pet dog on their leash or chain to go for a walk inside the house. This way you can control the dog and keep it away from the cat. It allows both of them to detect the presence of each other in the same room. However, they cannot reach one another.

Place them in different spaces of the house

When the pet dog is very aggressive, move them away from the space where the cat is. Take them to another room or classroom. Once they’ve calmed down, let them come back. Hold your dog on the leash to start the process over.

Divert the pet dog’s attention

After the dog has calmed down, try to redirect their interest in the cat. When you start to notice that they want to chase the cat or is watching them, give them a treat and play with them. Divert their attention as many times as necessary, pulling on the leash.

Release the dog’s energy

Take walks in or out of the house before placing them in the same space. This will help release the energy that the pet dog has accumulated.

Do not pressure either of the two pets

Don’t rush the process by bringing the two of them closer together. Let the energy within the same room flow without allowing them to get close.

Use the pet dog leash for several days

Do not remove the leash from the dog until they can get used to it and respect each other in their space. Keep in mind that the goal of this training is acceptance and adaptation. First, you want to make the pet dog understand that they cannot run after the cat. And also, that they cannot invade the space where the cat is. As you begin to notice a decrease in the dog’s excitement, slowly release the chain or leash until you notice that both of them can get closer without attacking each other.
