Step 1: You can bathe your Pet Chinchilla w/ Sand or Marble

Pet chinchillas are very neat animals. If this is the first time you have one, you will know when they want to bathe. Because they will start using the substrate in their bed to clean their coat. The correct way to bathe them is to use a pet chinchilla litter box that you can get at pet stores.

You can also use marble from the powder released after the marble is made. In this case, it is important to make sure that it is a previously sifted powder. Otherwise, it could contain sharp remains that can injure the animal while it is washing its fur.

Step 2: Their Bathing Area is up to your Budget

The pet chinchilla should be bathed in a separate container. For this, you can use from cookie tins, bowls like those used to feed dogs, and cat litter boxes. Or bathtubs specially designed for chinchillas. To be honest, it all depends on your budget. The important thing is that this container is used exclusively for it. The special sand or marble must cover about two centimeters high on the surface where the animal will bathe.

Step 3: Watch your Pet Chinchilla

To know how to properly bathe a pet chinchilla, take it out of their cage by holding it as if it were a cat: putting one of your hands on its belly and the other on its back, firmly but not squeezing. Since you could cause damage to its internal organs. Put them in the container or bathtub and let them do the rest. You will see them roll on the sand or marble. Make use of the brush with the dust to clean their fur.

Be aware of the chinchilla’s reactions. Bathing is generally an activity they enjoy. If they do something similar to a sneeze, if you notice eye irritation or changes in their coat, go to the vet. Hence, they will tell you what type of litter to use.

Step 4: Frequency & Litter Box Cleaning

The frequency to bathe the chinchilla will depend on the humidity of the place. Furthermore, the more humid, the more baths per week. If the pet chinchilla bathes every day, it should be left for only 5 minutes. If it is between 2-3 times a week, you can leave it for 10-15 minutes.

In the case of the litter box used more than once during the week, a sieve must be used to clean the fur and dead cells that the animal has thrown away. The sand should be changed weekly.

As you can see, learning to bathe a pet chinchilla has been quite simple. Now that you know how to do it and you are ready to have one of these pets at home and give it the care it deserves.
